How to use Decking Rescue Paint
Before you start
- Remove all furniture from your deck.
- Thoroughly scrub your deck with a stiff wire brush to remove dirt, loose wood and loose coating.
- Hose down the deck with a pressure washer to get rid of the rest of the dirt.
- Decking cleaner can remove mould, mildew and algae and will help the paint stick better.
- Leave your deck to dry before painting.
Application
- Give the paint a good stir and test it on a small patch of the decking to make sure you're happy with the colour.
- If you are happy with the colour, load up a paint brush with a good amount of paint.
- Start in the furthest corner of the decking and brush along the lengths of the boards. Focus on three to four boards at a time to ensure you don't get any overlap marks. You can fill in small cracks with extra amounts of paint.
- Wait four hours for the first coat to dry.
- Apply the second coat.
- Wait 48 hours for the second coat to completely dry. Once 48 hours have passed, you can move your furniture back onto the deck.
Aftercare
Cleaning
Brushes can be cleaned in warm soapy water.
You should regularly brush off dirt, dust and leaves from your deck. You can use a wire brush to do this.
If you notice any mould or mildew growing on your deck, use decking cleaner to remove it. This will help keep the finish of your deck in a good condition.
Repair
You should check your deck once a year for signs of wear and tear. If you notice a spot that's no longer looking its best, just apply another coat of paint and it will look good as new.
